Brief Account of PUP-IE Development · April, 1986 – First batch of BICE graduates. There were about 35 students (one section) who completed the course. · 1986 – Conversion to Bachelor of Science in this Industrial Engineering under the Institute Dean. At time, the freshmen enrollees were increased to two sections. There were seven (7) part-time faculty teaching the subject of he course. · August, 1986 – Formal membership of PUP-Industrial Engineering to the Association of Management and Industrial Engineers of the Philippines. · 1987 – First formal election of AMIEP-PUP set of officers. This was also the time when the Institute assigned a faculty adviser for the Industrial Engineering in person of Engr. Ma. Theresa Bongulto. · 1987 – The Institute of Technology was raised to a College level and named College of Engineering and Architecture. · 1988 – Creation of Industrial Engineering Learning Center where the AMIEP office and IE library was installed. · 1989 – First batch of graduates carrying the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. This became possible by adjusting the curriculum and about sixty students graduated. · 1989 – Sub-dividing the Institute into three departments where ME and IE merged into one department headed by Engr. Dante Gedaria. · 1989 – College of Engineering and Architecture engage in an International Linkage with Japan International Cooperating Agency (JICA). The Industrial Engineering formally submitted proposals on the said project regarding equipments and instructional materials. · 1990 – A new Chairperson was assigned the ME-IE Department in the person of Engr. Froilan Gaerlan. · 1991 – Separation of Industrial Engineering Department from Mechanical Engineering Department. The IE Department was headed by Engr. Froilan with three regular faculties and four part-time faculty. At this time, the department increases the number of section from two sections to three sections per level. · 1992 – A new building was provided to the College of Engineering and Architecture through JICA Project. The Industrial Engineering department together with he other Engineering courses occupied the building during this year. The IE office was located at Rm. 216. Three laboratories were provided for the department namely, Printing Technology Laboratory, Manufacturing Technology Laboratory, and Time and Motion Laboratory. All the laboratories were fully equipped with high-tech machines and equipment necessary to facilitate Industrial Engineering subjects. · 1992-1994 – The department was headed by Engr. Herman Cilindro. At this period, many faculty were appointed regular and the number of students continued to increase as well as the number of graduates. · 1993 – Another Technical panel for Engineering and Architecture visited the PUP-CEA and the Institution was remarkably recommended for an excellent program. · 1993 – The Industrial Engineering with other programs in the College voluntarily submitted to AACCUP Accreditation to show its commitment to quality education. · 1994-1997 – The Department was lead by Dr. Proculo Hugo and prepared for the preliminary visit of AACCUP team. · November, 1997 – The Industrial Engineering together with the other Engineering program of PUP attained the level 1 status by the AACCUP. · August, 2000 – Industrial Engineering is about to undergo the level 2 Accreditation by AACCUP. · December, 2000 – The AACCUP awarded the certificate of confirmation for level 2 Accreditation status for PUP Industrial Engineering. And it enjoys the status from 1999 up to 2002. Today, the Industrial Engineering Department of PUP is comprised of 14% of the College of Engineering. It has a total of more than 800 students for the school year 2001-2002. IE Department has the largest female enrollees with 29% of the female population belonging to the Industrial Engineering. The Department consists of 14 faculty members.
